HPE 9.5mm SATA DVD-RW Gen9 Optical Drive (726537-B21)

The HPE 9.5mm SATA DVD-RW Gen9 Optical Drive (726537-B21) is an internal optical drive designed specifically for compatible HPE ProLiant Gen9 servers. It provides a convenient optical media solution for server environments that require local access to DVDs and CDs for operating system installation, software deployment, patch installation, data access, backup, and archiving. HPE lists the drive as a 9.5mm SATA DVD-RW optical drive for ProLiant Gen9 servers.

The drive uses an industry-standard SATA 1.5 interface and features a tray-type auto-loading mechanism. Its 9.5mm form factor allows it to fit compatible slim optical-drive bays in supported HPE server platforms.

As a DVD+/-RW Super-Multi drive, the 726537-B21 supports a broad range of optical media. Supported DVD formats include DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM. Supported CD formats include CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, CD Audio, CD-Extra, Photo CD, CD-I, and other compatible CD formats.

The drive provides transfer speeds of up to 8X for DVD-ROM, DVD+R/-R, DVD+RW and DVD-RW reading. DVD-RW writing is supported at up to 6X, while DVD+R DL/-R DL writing is also supported at up to 6X. DVD-RAM operates at up to 5X, CD-ROM/-R at up to 24X, and CD-RW writing at up to 16X.

The drive supports DVD media capacities including 4.7GB single-layer and 8.5GB dual-layer media, providing additional capacity compared with standard CD media. It also supports DVD-RAM media up to 4.7GB.

With a compact drive size of approximately 9.5 × 130 × 132mm and a weight of approximately 0.66kg, the optical drive is designed for integration into compatible HPE server chassis without requiring a full-height optical-drive bay.

The HPE 9.5mm SATA DVD-RW Optical Drive is particularly useful for organizations that need to perform local software installation, operating system deployment, server configuration, data access, backup, or archival tasks using optical media. HPE identifies these as typical use cases for its optical-drive solutions.

The 726537-B21 carries a 1-year parts-only warranty. HPE’s QuickSpecs also state that the maximum coverage can be the remaining warranty of the HPE server in which the drive is installed, up to a maximum three-year limited warranty.
